Mitsubishi
International's chemicals-related business activities bring together
a number of the company's strengths on behalf of our customers worldwide.
MIC partners selectively with partners at all stages of development
- start-up and technology ventures, growth and expansion firms, and
larger more established companies, to create value and create new,
sustainable businesses by leveraging our industry experience, market
knowledge and our global network.
One of MIC's seven business units, the Chemicals Group focuses on
Commodity Chemicals and Specialty Chemicals. In general, the Group
exports commodity chemicals, plastics and fertilizer to Japan and
elsewhere in Asia, and imports specialty and functional chemicals,
as well as engineering plastics, into the U.S.
Commodity Chemicals There are thousands of commodity chemical transactions
carried out each day around the globe. Successful trading decisions
in this environment are based on up-to-the-second global market information.
In partnership with its investments and with our parent Mitsubishi
Corporation, MIC is constantly looking to develop new markets and
new chemical products.
Among the commodity chemicals it handles MIC
includes aromatic polyester, fiber intermediates and olefins, polyolefins
and industrial plastics, fertilizer, organic and inorganic industrial
chemicals, PVC and additives.
Specialty Chemicals Specialty Chemicals at MIC are exceptionally
diverse and global in scope. Fine and organic chemicals are used to
address two vital concerns of developing nations, improved medical
care and agricultural products. Mitsubishi's research has led us into
such areas as tissue culture, cell fusion and genetic engineering,
used to develop rice, cereal crops, vegetables and flowers with increased
disease resistance and improved characteristics.
In the area of plant protection, one of particular
importance to emerging economies, we have distributed American and
European agrichemicals to China, and have provided biochemical technical
guidance to the former Soviet Union.
The Chemicals Group shares with MIC as a whole,
and with our parent company, Mitsubishi Corporation, an abiding commitment
to environmental stewardship, which informs both day-to-day business
decisions and more strategic thinking about chemical products and
markets.
